Sapphire RX 9070 XT Valor Mortis Edition: Magnetic Backplate Explained
Sapphire is preparing a Nitro+ Radeon RX 9070 XT OC Valor Mortis Edition, a co-branded graphics card developed in collaboration with One More Level and publisher Lyrical Games for the launch of the first-person soulslike action game Valor Mortis.
The themed edition follows Sapphire’s established approach to limited graphics cards: retain the underlying Nitro+ hardware platform while adding game-specific visual elements. The most distinctive feature is a magnetic backplate printed with Valor Mortis artwork, which provides a cleaner way to customize the card without permanently altering its core chassis design.
Beyond aesthetics, the magnetic structure also has a practical purpose. It allows the backplate to be removed easily and exposes the concealed power-connector area, potentially simplifying GPU installation and power-cable routing inside the chassis.
🧲 Magnetic Backplate Design #
The magnetic backplate is the defining hardware feature of the Valor Mortis Edition. Rather than relying on a permanently fixed decorative panel, Sapphire uses a removable magnetic structure carrying artwork based on the game.
This design gives the themed edition two advantages: the graphics card can prominently display its co-branded artwork while maintaining relatively straightforward access to areas normally covered by the backplate.
The removable panel also exposes the hidden power-connector area underneath. For systems where GPU power-cable routing is constrained by the side panel or chassis layout, this approach can make installation and cable management more convenient.
Sapphire has previously applied similar customization strategies to themed Nitro+ graphics cards, including the Nitro+ Radeon RX 9070 XT OC Crimson Desert Edition. The Valor Mortis Edition continues that product strategy with a different game-specific design.
Custom fan and lighting treatment #
The card is expected to retain the visual and mechanical characteristics of the standard Nitro+ Radeon RX 9070 XT OC while adding game-specific details.
Custom fan badges provide another visible element of the collaboration, while the underlying cooler is expected to use Sapphire’s TRI-X triple-fan design. Built-in ARGB lighting can also be configured through Sapphire’s TriXX software, allowing the themed card’s lighting to be integrated into a broader system lighting setup.
🎮 Valor Mortis Game Bundle #
Sapphire plans to bundle a copy of Valor Mortis with the graphics card. However, the company has not yet clarified whether the included game will be the Standard Edition or Deluxe Edition.
Valor Mortis is scheduled for official release on October 13, 2026, making the graphics card’s launch timing closely aligned with the game’s release window.
The bundled-game strategy also distinguishes the product from a purely cosmetic special edition: buyers receive themed hardware together with the game that inspired its design.
⚙️ Expected Hardware Specifications #
Sapphire has not yet published the complete hardware specifications for the Valor Mortis Edition. Based on the configuration used by other themed Nitro+ products in the same series, the underlying GPU, memory subsystem, cooling architecture, and factory overclock are expected to remain consistent with the standard Nitro+ Radeon RX 9070 XT OC.
The corresponding configuration reaches a boost clock of up to 3060 MHz and a game clock of 2520 MHz. It is equipped with 16 GB of GDDR6 memory connected through a 256-bit memory interface, with an effective memory speed of 20 Gbps.
If Sapphire follows the established Nitro+ configuration, the Valor Mortis Edition should therefore be primarily differentiated by its industrial design, accessories, and bundled game rather than by a substantially different GPU configuration.
📅 Release and Pricing #
Sapphire has not yet disclosed official pricing or an exact retail release date for the Valor Mortis Edition.
The timing is expected to be closely associated with Valor Mortis, whose official launch is scheduled for October 13, 2026. A release around the game’s launch would allow Sapphire to position the graphics card as a hardware companion to the title rather than as a conventional Nitro+ refresh.
Until Sapphire publishes final specifications and retail information, details such as availability, pricing, and the exact bundled game edition should be treated as unconfirmed.
🏆 Sapphire’s 25th Anniversary #
The Valor Mortis Edition is also arriving during Sapphire’s 25th anniversary year.
Founder and CEO KD Au said the milestone belongs to Sapphire’s customers, AMD partners, and employees. He also reiterated that Sapphire was established with the ambition of building the world’s best graphics cards, describing that objective as an ongoing motivation for the company.
Against that backdrop, the Valor Mortis Edition represents another example of Sapphire using its established Nitro+ hardware platform for a more specialized, collector-oriented graphics card design.
🔍 What Makes the Design Interesting? #
The key feature of the Sapphire RX 9070 XT Valor Mortis Edition is not simply the game artwork. The magnetic backplate combines visual customization with functional accessibility.
Instead of treating the backplate purely as a decorative surface, Sapphire’s design allows it to be removed when necessary and provides access to the concealed power-connector area. That makes the themed component useful during installation while preserving the visual identity of the co-branded card during normal operation.
If the final retail configuration remains close to the standard Nitro+ Radeon RX 9070 XT OC, the Valor Mortis Edition will primarily appeal to users who want the performance and cooling characteristics of Sapphire’s high-end RX 9070 XT platform together with a game-specific design and bundled copy of Valor Mortis.
