GPU Prices Surge Again as GeForce Takes the Hardest Hit

📈 Global GPU Prices Rise 15% in One Month

Global graphics card retail prices have entered another sharp upward cycle.

TechSpot’s retail tracking across 10 countries—the United States, Australia, Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada, India, the Philippines, Brazil, Poland, and the Netherlands—shows that the average minimum in-stock price across surveyed GPUs increased 15% month over month (MoM) from July to August 2026.

NVIDIA’s GeForce lineup experienced the largest increase, rising 19%, while AMD Radeon prices increased 11%. Intel Arc prices also moved higher as supply remained relatively constrained.

The tracking methodology focuses on the lowest retail price of a brand-new GPU that is currently in stock and normally purchasable in each market. It therefore represents the minimum entry cost for each GPU rather than the price of premium factory-overclocked or heavily customized partner models.

The data was collected several days before publication, so individual listings may have changed slightly since then.

The most important trend is no longer simply that GPUs are becoming more expensive. The traditional MSRP-based product hierarchy is starting to break down.

Rising memory costs, particularly for newer high-capacity configurations, are pushing some GPUs far beyond their launch pricing while leaving others comparatively close to MSRP.


🟢 GeForce Prices Take the Biggest Hit

NVIDIA’s GeForce family experienced the strongest price inflation in the latest tracking period.

From entry-level products through flagship cards, prices increased across much of the lineup, with GPUs offering larger VRAM capacities generally experiencing some of the most aggressive premiums.

RTX 5050: Entry-Level Pricing Starts Moving

The RTX 5050 had previously maintained relatively stable pricing, but that changed across many regions during August.

Its global average price increased:

  • 14% MoM
  • 19% compared with February 2026

In the United States, the lowest tracked price is around $300, approximately 20% above its $249 MSRP.

That remains comparatively mild against some higher-end GeForce models, but it demonstrates that pricing pressure is no longer restricted to enthusiast GPUs.

RTX 5060: A 51% MSRP Premium in the US

The RTX 5060 experienced a considerably sharper increase.

In the United States, the current minimum price is approximately $450, which is:

  • 51% above its $299 MSRP
  • 32% higher than July
  • Significantly higher than its original entry-level positioning

Globally, the RTX 5060 increased approximately 23% MoM and 18% compared with February.

Australia was a notable exception. Although local pricing increased about 11% from July, RTX 5060 prices there remained below February levels.

RTX 5060 Ti: VRAM Creates a Major Price Split

The RTX 5060 Ti illustrates the impact of VRAM capacity particularly clearly.

The 8GB model, which had remained relatively close to MSRP for an extended period, began rising sharply in August. Its global average price increased:

  • 24% MoM
  • 13% compared with February
  • To an average premium of approximately 14% above MSRP

In the United States, the card currently sells for around $500, roughly 32% above its $379 MSRP.

The 16GB version began its price increase earlier and has moved much further.

Its global average price increased:

  • 22% MoM
  • 27% compared with February
  • To an average premium of approximately 53%

That makes the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB the second-most heavily marked-up model in the tracked GeForce lineup, behind only the RTX 5090.

US pricing is around $730, approximately 70% above its $429 MSRP.

The difference between the two memory configurations has therefore become substantial. The 16GB model currently costs roughly 50% more than the 8GB version, with some regions showing price gaps as high as 62%.

This is one of the clearest examples of memory costs directly reshaping GPU retail pricing.

RTX 5070: Product Tiers Begin to Collapse

The RTX 5070 has also experienced significant inflation.

Its global average price increased:

  • 20% MoM
  • 19% compared with February
  • To an average premium of approximately 31%

In the United States, the card sells for around $800, or approximately 46% above its $549 MSRP.

This increase has significantly compressed the original pricing hierarchy.

At launch, the MSRP difference between the RTX 5070 and RTX 5060 Ti 16GB was $120, representing roughly a 28% price gap.

Today, the global minimum-price difference has narrowed to around 10%. In the United States, the difference is only about $70.

The result is a market where GPUs that were originally positioned in clearly separated performance tiers are now competing directly on retail price.

RTX 5070 Ti: Still Heavily Marked Up

The RTX 5070 Ti experienced most of its major price increases earlier in 2026, with the rate of growth becoming somewhat flatter in recent months.

From July to August, its global average price increased:

  • 17% MoM
  • 14% compared with February
  • To an average premium of approximately 44%

That still makes it one of the most expensive GeForce models relative to its original launch price.

RTX 5080: High Premium Despite Earlier Price Declines

The RTX 5080 also moved higher in August.

Its global average price increased 15% MoM. Because pricing had fallen during the first half of the year, however, the card was only 8% above February levels.

Its global average premium is now approximately 38%.

The United States presents a much more extreme picture. The RTX 5080 increased approximately 24%, reaching around $1,550.

That puts the card roughly 55% above its $999 MSRP, making US pricing an unusually high-premium case compared with several other major markets.

RTX 5090: Flagship Pricing Enters Workstation Territory

The RTX 5090 suffered the largest price increase of all tracked GPUs.

Its global average price increased:

  • 20% MoM
  • 41% compared with February
  • To an average premium of approximately 136% above MSRP

In the United States, prices approached $5,000, roughly 145% above its $1,999 MSRP.

At that level, the RTX 5090 is no longer operating within a conventional enthusiast-GPU price bracket.

Its combination of AI compute performance and 32GB of VRAM has pushed retail pricing into territory traditionally associated with workstation-class hardware.


🔴 Radeon Prices Also Rise, but More Slowly

AMD Radeon GPUs have not escaped the broader market pressure, but their overall price increases have been less severe than GeForce.

The Radeon lineup’s average increase was approximately 11%, compared with 19% for GeForce.

One important structural difference is memory. Radeon cards in this generation primarily rely on GDDR6, while NVIDIA’s newer GeForce products make greater use of GDDR7.

That difference appears to be helping limit some of AMD’s memory-driven price inflation, although Radeon products with larger VRAM capacities are still significantly above MSRP.

RX 9060 XT 8GB: The Sharpest Radeon Increase

The RX 9060 XT 8GB recorded the largest recent increase within the Radeon lineup.

Its global average price increased:

  • 16% MoM
  • 20% compared with February
  • To an average premium of approximately 26%

US pricing remained around $360, approximately 20% above its $299 MSRP.

RX 9060 XT 16GB: Higher Premium, Slower Recent Growth

The 16GB version experienced a smaller recent increase of approximately 8% MoM and 11% compared with February.

Despite that slower trajectory, its global average premium reached approximately 28%, making it the highest-premium model in the current Radeon lineup.

Its relatively slower price escalation appears to be related to steady demand and continuous inventory turnover at elevated prices.

RX 9070: One of the More Stable Options

The RX 9070 has demonstrated considerably better price resilience.

Its global average price increased:

  • 8% MoM
  • Only 5% compared with February
  • To an average premium of approximately 13%

That represents the smallest six-month increase among the surveyed GPUs.

With 16GB of VRAM, the RX 9070 has maintained comparatively stable pricing despite broader memory-cost pressures.

RX 9070 XT: Still Competitive, but Regional Pricing Matters

The RX 9070 XT increased approximately:

  • 12% MoM
  • 8% compared with February
  • To a global average premium of around 21%

Some of the increase in markets such as Australia appears to represent a correction after unusually low July pricing rather than a uniform structural increase.

The RX 9070 XT currently costs approximately 16% more than the RX 9070.

Based on previous benchmark data covering 52 games, the XT model delivers roughly 12% more performance, meaning the standard RX 9070 can offer better value at current pricing.

However, the conclusion depends heavily on regional pricing. In markets such as the Philippines, the smaller price gap for the XT model can make the higher-tier card the more attractive option.

Overall, Radeon pricing remains less inflated than GeForce, but the difference should not be interpreted as immunity from rising memory and component costs.

Many 16GB Radeon models are still selling roughly $100–$150 above MSRP.


🔵 Intel Arc Supply Remains Tight

Intel’s Arc lineup has also been affected by limited retail availability.

The Arc B570 experienced particularly tight supply, with some regions offering only one or two active retail listings.

Its price increased approximately:

  • 12% from July
  • 22% from February

In the United States, the B570 sells for around $260, approximately 19% above its $219 MSRP.

Even after the increase, it remains one of the least expensive discrete GPUs on the market.

The Arc B580 has somewhat better availability, although its retail presence remains below that of GeForce and Radeon.

Its price increased:

  • 7% from July
  • 14% from February
  • To an average global premium of approximately 25%

US pricing is around $310, putting it close to the RTX 5050 and below the RTX 5060.

That gives Intel some remaining competitiveness in the entry-level segment, particularly for buyers prioritizing absolute price.


💰 Rising VRAM Costs Are Reshaping GPU Pricing

The most significant consequence of this pricing cycle is the widening gap between launch MSRP and actual retail price.

Excluding the extreme RTX 5090 pricing, GPUs in the surveyed sample averaged approximately 28% above launch MSRP.

Several GeForce models are now carrying premiums in the 40%–50% range.

The US market makes the relationship between VRAM and price particularly visible.

Industry analysis has linked the recent rise in GDDR7 pricing to AI-related demand, which is absorbing memory capacity and tightening supply across the broader memory market.

This creates an indirect pricing mechanism:

AI demand → tighter memory supply → higher memory costs → higher GPU manufacturing costs → higher retail prices

The effect is particularly visible on products where manufacturers offer multiple VRAM configurations of essentially the same GPU.


⚖️ GPU Price Tiers Are Losing Their Original Structure

The second major consequence is the disruption of traditional product positioning.

At launch, GPU manufacturers establish relatively clear pricing tiers. Consumers can generally compare products by performance, VRAM, and price within those tiers.

That relationship is becoming less reliable.

Non-uniform price increases have caused some mid-range GeForce products to approach or overlap with higher-tier Radeon products.

Examples include:

  • The RTX 5060 was originally positioned against the RX 9060 XT 8GB but is now priced much closer to the RX 9060 XT 16GB.
  • The RTX 5060 Ti 16GB and RTX 5070 have moved into pricing territory comparable to the RX 9070 XT.
  • The global average price of the RTX 5070 Ti is approximately 50% higher than that of the RX 9070 Ti.

The result is a distorted competitive landscape.

A GPU that was originally the obvious choice at a particular price point may no longer be competitive after several months of market-driven increases.

This is why current retail pricing has become more important than launch MSRP when evaluating GPU value.


🧭 What GPU Buyers Should Do Now

The current market makes launch MSRP a poor standalone budgeting tool.

For anyone building a PC in the near future, the more useful approach is to compare actual local in-stock prices between GPUs that are currently available.

A practical buying process is:

  1. Check the lowest legitimate in-stock price in your market.
  2. Compare GPUs within the same real-world price range rather than MSRP tiers.
  3. Account for VRAM capacity and expected workload.
  4. Compare performance using current benchmarks rather than launch positioning.
  5. Consider power consumption, cooling, and availability alongside raw performance.
  6. Avoid paying a large premium simply because a GPU originally occupied a higher product tier.

If an upgrade is not urgent, waiting may be the better strategy.

The current pricing cycle is being influenced by broader memory and supply conditions rather than GPU performance alone, so prices could normalize if supply constraints ease.

At the same time, market reports suggest that Radeon GPUs could face additional price increases, which means the current GeForce-Radeon price gap may not remain unchanged.

For now, the safest conclusion is straightforward:

The GPU market can no longer be evaluated reliably using MSRP alone.

Actual street price, VRAM capacity, performance, and regional availability now matter far more than the product tier assigned at launch.


🔮 The GPU Market Is Entering a New Pricing Phase

The July-to-August 2026 data shows that GPU inflation is no longer isolated to flagship products.

The average minimum in-stock price across the surveyed market increased 15% in a single month, while GeForce prices jumped 19% and Radeon prices rose 11%.

The RTX 5090 represents the extreme case, but the more important development is happening lower in the product stack.

RTX 5060, RTX 5060 Ti, RTX 5070, and other mainstream products are increasingly detached from their original MSRPs. Higher-VRAM configurations are particularly vulnerable as memory costs rise.

That is changing how GPUs should be compared.

The question is no longer simply:

“What GPU can I buy at its MSRP?”

It is increasingly:

“What GPU delivers the best performance and VRAM capacity at today’s actual local price?”

Until supply and memory costs stabilize, spot retail pricing—not launch MSRP—should be the primary reference point for GPU purchasing decisions.
